A Practicing Laboratory with Academic Programs Devoted to Forensic Science

City of Tulsa Police Department Forensics Laboratory and Property & Evidence Room AND Oklahoma State University Forensics Science and Biomedical Research Center

All AIA members are invited to attend!

Earlier this year, construction began on a five-floor, 141,000 s.f. building located at the southwest corner of the campus located 111 W. 17th St. in Tulsa, OK.  The $38.7 million facility is a joint venture between the City of Tulsa and the OSU Medical College, financed by the 2001 and 2006 third-penny sales tax plus the 2005 general obligation bond, and bonds approved by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education and the Oklahoma A&M Colleges Board of Regents.

The first two floors will house the City of Tulsa's Police Department forensic laboratory and evidence rooms, as well as more space to study and test evidence.  Officers will use the labs to examine firearms, perform DNA testing and analyze fingerprints and handwriting.  The new rooms will allow better evidence processing and aid prosecutions.  The space will be 4x larger than the current space in the city's Municipal Courts Building.

The OSU College of Medicine will use the third through fifth floors for forensic science classrooms, biomedical science research labs, and faculty offices for the forensic sciences graduate program.  The college's forensic science students often intern with the Tulsa Police Department.  OSU already provides forensics training at the center which is home to 1 of 8 nationally accredited forensics programs in the nation.

Officials believe the new building will lead to expanded research opportunities for OSU and enhanced economic development for the city.  The project is expected to be completed in early 2010.

Mary Kell, AIA, on staff with the City of Tulsa's Special Projects Design Team, will be hosting the tour along with Miles Associates' architects.

Advance registration is required so that we may have enough staff on site for the tour!
